Andhra Pradesh On Red Alert As COVID-19 Cases Rise

Amid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued a public advisory urging heightened caution and preventive measures.

A fresh case was noted in Kadapa on Friday, raising the overall count of cases to two. Andhra Pradesh has gone into red alert to prepare for the potential rise of Covid-19 cases and it has issued a general advisory to be more cautious.

A Covid-19 confirmed positive woman in Visakhapatnam, is the first reported case in a while. Then on Friday, there was a second case recorded in Kadapa that has yet to be confirmed. A senior official from the Directorate of Public Health and Family Welfare said the woman is recovering and there is no cause for concern.

The government of Andhra Pradesh put out an advisory in response to growing worries about COVID-19 asking people to avoid large gatherings, like prayer meetings and social gatherings. It encouraged people over 60 years old and pregnant women to stay indoors.

The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare in Andhra Pradesh called on the general public to practice good hygiene, which includes frequent handwashing; covering mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing; and avoiding touching the face. The government of Andhra Pradesh has also advised residents to wear masks in areas at risk, particularly in crowded or poorly-ventilated areas.

A number of experts from the National Centre for Disease Control, the Emergency Medical Relief division, the Disaster Management Cell, the Indian Council of Medical Research and central government hospitals and, led by the Director General of Health Services, had a review meeting on Monday.
