Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway: The much-awaited Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is progressing as planned. Once completed, it will make road travel between Gujarat and Punjab much easier. The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, currently under construction, will become the longest expressway ever built in India. It will connect Amritsar in Punjab to Jamnagar in Gujarat and span across 1,256.95 kilometers.
How Will It Benefit Commuters?
The expressway will reduce travel time between Amritsar and Jamnagar from 26 hours to only 13 hours. It will ease the journey between Amritsar and Jamnagar while offering connectivity to various refineries on its way. “The road will strengthen connectivity to major refineries in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab and will enhance industrial access from North India to key ports like Kandla and Mundra in Gujarat,” the NHAI added.
Furthermore, it will provide seamless transfer experience across four states which includes Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat. It is a part of the Bharatmala and Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor.
The six-lane Greenfield Expressway section of the Amritsar – Jamnagar Economic Corridor will be built at a cost of around Rs 11,125 crores.
Connectivity Across Four States
The Green Field Expressway will connect Rajasthan with Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. Along with it, important commercial seaports like Jamnagar and Kandla will also become accessible from Bikaner and Rajasthan.
Furthermore, the distances between Bikaner and Amritsar, and Jodhpur will be reduced, along with the distance between Jodhpur and Gujarat which will largely benefit the farmers and businesses of the region.
Earlier, PM Modi said, “This Greenfield Expressway will strengthen the economic activities in entire western India.” He had highlighted the increased connectivity with oil field refineries which will strengthen the supply, thereby giving pace to economic developments in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated to the nation six lane greenfield expressway section of the Amritsar – Jamnagar Economic Corridor on July 8, 2023.
The move aimed at ensuring the seamless movement of people and cargo, including heavy vehicles. Currently, cargo vehicles in India cover about 400 km per day, which is at least 50% less than the global standard. There is scope to reduce the cost and time by up to 50%.
