An NRI, Sukhchain Singh, who recently returned from the United States, was shot at his residence in Daburji area in Amritsar on Saturday. Two armed men entered his home and fired at him at close range, while his wife and child desperately pleaded for his life. Singh sustained two bullet wounds and is currently hospitalized.

Attack Caught on CCTV
The brutal assault was captured on the family’s CCTV camera, showing the attackers fleeing after their pistols jammed. The assailants entered Singh’s house under the pretext of asking about his luxury car’s registration certificate, which he had recently purchased for Rs 1.5 crore.
Family Accuses Ex-Wife’s Relatives
Singh’s family has accused his first wife’s relatives of orchestrating the attack. His mother has called for strict action against the accused, and an FIR has been lodged against five family members of his ex-wife, according to ANI.
Government Orders Immediate Action
The Punjab government has directed the Amritsar Police Commissioner to take swift action in the case. The police have seized the CCTV footage and launched an investigation into the incident.

Opposition parties have used the attack to criticize the AAP government over Punjab’s law and order situation. Meanwhile, Punjab’s Minister for NRI Affairs, Kuldeep S. Dhaliwal, hinted that the attack may have stemmed from a personal dispute.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify the attackers and bring them to justice.
