Amidst the ongoing Operation Sindoor, the fallen heroes of the Kargil War are being remembered with respect and floral tributes at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. Two Union Ministers, including the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, and MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, along with Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, and relatives of the fallen heroes of the Kargil War, visited the Kargil War Memorial in Dras to pay their respects to the 545 soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Vijay.
On Kargil Vijay Diwas, dignitaries, families of fallen soldiers, and army commanders began paying floral tributes at the War Memorial in Dras, honoring the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said on Friday that Operation Sindoor, India’s direct military action against Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror strike, is still ongoing. He emphasized that the country’s military readiness must always remain at a very high level.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is not merely a celebration of victory but a profound reminder of the extraordinary courage, selfless sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism displayed by the Indian Armed Forces.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 every year. On this day in 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of ‘Operation Vijay,’ declaring victory after a nearly three-month-long battle in the icy heights of Kargil, including super-high-altitude locations such as Tololing and Tiger Hill.
