HYDERABAD: Two days after six members associated with QNet died in the Swapnalok Complex inferno, an engineering graduate, Gopal Das Ramu, said had Mahankali police acted on his complaint against QNet, his friends – Triveni and Vennela – would have been alive today.
Ramu, who was introduced to QNet by Triveni last year, paid 1.5 lakh after she assured him of a ‘good future’. Soon after he came to know about Qnet following a pyramid model, Ramu insisted that his money be returned. He even visited Swapnalok Complex where the managers of QNet refused to return the money.
“I then lodged complaint with Mahankali police claiming that I was cheated since I was not told at the time of collecting 1.50 lakh that I have to enrol new members. The sub-inspector called Shiva, who claimed himself to be QNet CEO, and the latter showed some documents. The SI said he cannot take any action,” Ramu recalled.
When Enforcement Directorate sleuths conducted searches on various premises allegedly belonging to QNet and accused them of doing moneylaundering, Ramu once again contacted Mahankali police and informed them about the ED action against QNet but once again, he got a raw deal.
“Though I lost money after Triveni influenced me, I feel that all those six persons would have been alive had police acted on my complaint,” Ramu insisted. Police said that when they called QNet representatives, the latter said that return of money was not possible since the deposit was more than a month old.
In connection with previous cases registered by Cyberabad and Hyderabad police, QNet managers obtained relief from various courts. As a result, police have no clarity whether QNet or its alleged subsidiary business model is legal or not. “A complainant has approached me for a refund and the company authorities said that return of money is not possible. In the previous cases registered against QNet, either they obtained a stay or got the FIRs quashed. Since FIRs have already been registered in the past, no new case has been registered,”‘ Mahankali sub-inspector G Rakesh told STOI.
Meanwhile, TSRTC managing director VC Sajjanar, who, acted tough against the multi-level marketing companies, including QNet, by registered criminal cases while he served as Cyberabad police commissioner and in Crime Investigation Department, tweeted: “The law enforcement agencies also need to have a surveillance over the activities of such fraudulent MLM companies and take suo motu legal action to prevent further crimes. My stand is very firm. QNet is illegal.”
