Amethi Murder Case: CM Yogi Adityanath Calls Killings ‘Unforgivable,’ Vows Strict Action Against Perpetrators

Authorities believe the attack may be revenge for a complaint the family filed under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

A very dreadful incident occurred in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday in which an infant aged just one year, a six-year-old girl, and the rest two others from that family were brutally shot dead by some unidentified people at their house. The attack happened at about 7:15 pm. Sunil (35), a teacher in a government school, his wife Poonam (32), and their two small daughters have been confirmed as the victims of the attack. Unidentified assailants barged into their rented house

SC/ST Case Suspected

According to Amethi Superintendent of Police (SP) Anoop Kumar Singh, preliminary investigation suggests the murder could be in retaliation against a complaint filed by the family against a local man Chandan Verma. The complaint, lodged under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 also alleged eve-teasing. The police are investigating if the earlier complaint had triggered the deadly attack. Nine shells and a live cartridge were found at the crime scene, indicating a deliberate and gruesome attack.
