In the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was held at the SKICC in Srinagar. The meeting culminated in a unanimous resolution denouncing the attack, which was labeled as “barbaric” and an assault on the cherished values of Kashmiriyat and the broader idea of India.
The resolution expressed profound solidarity with the families of the victims and reiterated Jammu Kashmir’s unwavering commitment to peace and communal harmony. Participants expressed their collective shock and anguish over the brutal attack on defenseless civilians, emphasizing that such cowardly acts have no place in society and directly threaten the Jammu Kashmir’s traditions of unity.
The leaders pledged their full support for ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, affirming that no act of terror would weaken their resolve. They also voiced their support for the measures taken by the Union Government in response to the attack.
A special tribute was paid to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local horse ride operator who lost his life while bravely attempting to fend off the terrorists to protect tourists. The resolution hailed him as a symbol of Kashmiriyat and hospitality, asserting that his courage would serve as an enduring inspiration for all.
The meeting extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and commended the people of Jammu Kashmir for their overwhelming support to tourists and for organizing peaceful demonstrations across the UT to condemn the attack.
In light of growing concerns regarding the safety of Kashmiri students and citizens outside the Union Territory, the resolution made a passionate appeal to all state governments and Union Territories to ensure their protection. It urged authorities to prevent any form of harassment, discrimination, or intimidation against Kashmiris residing or traveling outside JK.
The gathering called upon political parties, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and the media to maintain calm and resist any attempts to disrupt harmony. It emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts to ensure the prosperity and stability of Jammu Kashmir.
The all-party meeting saw participation from a diverse array of leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, NC President Farooq Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, several ministers, Members of Parliament, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leaders Tariq Hameed Karra and Nizamuddin Bhat, CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami, Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, PDP leaders Mehboob Beigh and Basharat Bukhari, Apni Party president Syed Altaf Bukhari, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur, among others.
