New Delhi: As Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin person, is about to become United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra takes a jibe referencing Winston Churchill’s quote which said ‘all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw’.
“In 1947 on the cusp of Indian Independence, Winston Churchill supposedly said “…all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw,” Mahindra said in a tweet.
“Today, during the 75th year of our Independence, we’re poised to see a man of Indian origin anointed as PM of the UK.”
Life is beautiful…, he added.

UK’s former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is all set to become the new Prime Minister of Britain as his rival Penny Mordaunt backs out from the top post race on Monday.
According to media reports, Rishi Sunak currently has the support of 192 Conservative MPs while his opponent, Penny Mordaunt, has 27 MPs backing her.
After dropping out of the PM race, Mordaunt endorsed Sunak for prime minister post.
In a tweet she said: “These are unprecedented times. Despite the compressed timetable for the leadership contest it is clear that colleagues feel we need certainty.
“They have taken this decision in good faith for the sake of the country.”
“We have now chosen our next Prime Minister. This decision is an historic one and shows, once again, the diversity and talent of our party. Rishi has my full support,” Mordaunt said.
