New Delhi: Following major crackdown on Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders, All India Bar Association (AIBA) on Saturday appealed the Centre to ban the Islamic group.

The Bar asked that the ban should be imposed immediately without any delay. While condemning the Islamic group, the bar said exclusive special courts should be set up to try try PFI-related cases.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out multiple joint raids on office bearers and activists of PFI. The search and seizure operations were held across the nation including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.

If media reports are to be believed then, as many as 106 PFI activists have been arrested so far.

The central probe agencies carried out the raids in coordination with the security personnel including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Meanwhile, the PFI supporters and activists on Friday called for a state-wide strike. While taking suo moto cognisance in the matter, the Kerala High Court ordered a stay as the PFI did not obtain due permission.

However, several major districts of Kerala including state capital Thiruvananthapuram reported cases of violence and vandalism. The agitators came down to streets demanding release of PFI leaders.
