In a significant move, Mhow Cantonment Board (MCB) has issued a notice to current legal occupant of Al-Falah University founder Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui’s ancestral house. The occupant has been asked to remove illegal constructions and submit a reply within three days. This comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested Siddiqui in a money laundering case. He was arrested under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
Siddiqui’s ancestral home flagged for illegal constructions
As the basement and two top floors are considered illegal as per MCB records, the entire building may be required to be demolished to legalise the records, TOI reported quoting officials. Cantonment Engineer Harishankar Kaloya stated that the notice was issued to the owner or occupant of house no 1371, Survey no 245/1245, Mukeri Mohalla, Mhow the same house in which Siddiqui and his brother Hamood Ahmed Siddiqui used to live along with their families until the early 2000s.
ED arrests Al Falah group chairman
Siddiqui was arrested following a detailed investigation and analysis of evidence gathered during a search conducted at premises related to the Al Falah group. The search was a part of the ongoing Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) recorded by the ED under PMLA in connection with the Al Falah Group. Probe into Al-Falah University, financial operations of the Al-Falah Trust, its associated firms, and the personnel managing the institution’s administrative and financial systems have been intensified.
How did the University come under scrutiny?
The University came under scrutiny after the arrest of several doctors in connection with the November 10 blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which claimed lives of 15 people and injured many others. The suicide bomber, Dr Umar Un Nabi, a Kashmiri resident, was associated with the varsity.
Investigation against the Al Falah group was initiated by the ED on the basis of two FIRs registered by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. The report alleged that Faridabad-based Al-Falah University has made fraudulent and misleading claims of National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation with an intention to deceive students, parents, and stakeholders for wrongful gain.
