New Delhi: Ajay Maken, a central observer for the Congress, said on Monday that he and Mallikarjun Kharge would submit a written report on the unrest in Rajasthan “tonight or tomorrow.”
After meeting with Sonia Gandhi, the interim head of the Congress, Maken said she requested a “written report” after being briefed “in detail” about the talks he and Kharge had in Rajasthan. He was speaking to media in New Delhi at the time.
Maken claimed that up to 102 Gehlot backers had instructed him and Kharge that if Gehlot, who is running to be the next Congress president, is elected, someone from their group must be appointed chief minister of Rajasthan.
“We told them that their opinion would be presented before party chief and that no conditions are attached to resolutions passed; party chief decides after consultations,” the Congress central observer added.
Gehlot’s supporters are adamantly opposed to Sachin Pilot, the former deputy chief minister who unsuccessfully overthrew the Rajasthan CM-led government in 2020, succeeding him.
