The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has instructed seven airlines to guarantee that passengers’ baggage is delivered within 30 minutes of their flight landing at an airport. This directive, prompted by delays in passengers receiving their baggage post-landing, requires the airlines to implement necessary measures by February 26. The directive was issued to Air India, Indigo, Akasa, SpiceJet, Vistara, Air India Express Connect, and Air India Express, all of whom operate scheduled flights
“Airlines to ensure that delivery of last baggage is made within 30 minutes for as per the Service Quality Requirements of Operation, Management and Delivery Agreement (OMDA),” stated the order

Additionally, the BCAS has initiated monitoring procedures to track the timing of baggage arrival at conveyor belts in six prominent airports since January 2024. Officials have reported that while there has been some improvement in airline performance since the inception of this review, it still falls short of the mandated standards. These standards dictate that the initial baggage should reach the luggage belt within 10 minutes of aircraft engine shutdown, with the last bag following within 30 minutes.
Although the current monitoring efforts are concentrated on six major airports, the BCAS has instructed the airlines to ensure adherence to these standards at all airports where they operate.
