An Air India Express flight, IX 398, carrying 160 passengers, was forced to make an emergency landing at the Kochi airport on Thursday. The flight, en route to Kozhikode from Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, was diverted after encountering a technical snag involving the failure of the right main landing gear and tyre.

The aircraft landed safely at 9.07 am under full emergency conditions. According to a spokesperson from Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), no injuries were reported among passengers or crew members, and all emergency services were activated in advance. “Post-landing inspection confirmed that both right-side tyres had burst,” he added. As per the latest update, the runway has been cleared for normal operations after post-landing inspection.

Fog disrupts air travel across North India

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday issued a weather advisory warning of air travel disruptions across North India due to fog.

“Persistent fog is affecting several airports across Northern India, resulting in low visibility and possible flight delays. Passengers are advised to confirm their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport. Check the airport’s official website or social media handles for updates. Plan your journey in advance and allow additional travel time,” AAI posted on X.

IndiGo issues travel advisory

IndiGo has also issued a travel advisory earlier today, warning of possible disruptions at select destinations. “Low visibility and fog over Ranchi, Patna, and Varanasi may impact flight schedules,” the airline said in a post on X.

“We are doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” IndiGo added, urging passengers to confirm their flight status through its website or app.

“Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support. We look forward to clearer skies and a swift return to our regular schedule. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the advisory further stated.
