Chaos broke out at Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi after Air India cancelled its Copenhagen (Denmark)-bound flight on Sunday, May 18. Prior to the cancellation, the airline operator delayed the flight multiple times, leaving passengers in disguise. The flight was reportedly cancelled following a technical glitch.
This was Air India flight AI157, which was set to leave Delhi at 2:10 pm IST and reach its destination, Copenhagen, at 8:00 pm local time.
A passenger travelling to Copenhagen on the same flight, told News24, “I reached the airport at around 10 am. The flight was scheduled at 2:10 pm IST. The airline announced the delay in flight at least three times and a gate change before permanently cancelling it at around 5:00 pm. On enquiry, we got to know that there was some technical issue in the flight, leading to its cancellation.”
He said, “no proper arrangements or announcements were made, giving room to chaos and worry at the airport.”
How Air India Compensated?
The passenger said the airline offered alternative flights and accommodation, but the mismanagement added to the passengers’ frustration, hence failed to lure. “I was too offered an alternative flight, but they said the flight booking they had done was for May 20, but it turned out to be for May 19. I had to rush to the airport to catch the flight. It was a complete ruckus,” said the passenger.
He also pointed out the mismanagement by Air India staff, leading to the ruckus at the airport. However, the airline is yet to issue any clarification on the matter.
Meanwhile, another viral video on social media shows an Air India passenger complaining about non-functional air conditioning on a flight. The passenger claimed they had been sitting without AC for over an hour during a heatwave. In the video, a passenger was visibly sweating.
