AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel hosted a ‘biryani party’ at his home to protest the civic body’s meat ban order on account of festivals. Jaleel lashed out at the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis for not intervening in the matter.
According to PTI, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation had announced the closure of slaughterhouses, outlets, and meat shops on two days-August 15 and 20. Independence Day and Gokul Ashtami are being celebrated on August 15, while ‘Paryushan Parv’ will be observed on August 20.”
While opposing the move, Jaleel organised the party, stating that the government should not tell anyone what they should or should not eat.
“I have cooked chicken biryani along with a vegetarian dish. If the municipal commissioner comes and asks for vegetarian food, then I will offer it to him. But the government should not tell us what we should eat and what we should not. Such things should be stopped. This unfortunate decision (of meat ban) was taken on account of Independence Day,” he said while talking to media persons.
On August 13, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for ordering the closure of meat shops and slaughter houses on Independence Day. Questioning the logic behind the meat ban and celebrating Independence Day, he said the order violates people’s right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition, and religion.
“Many municipal corporations across India seemed to have ordered that slaughterhouses and meat shops should be closed on 15th August. Unfortunately, @GHMCOnline has also made a similar order,” Owaisi said in a post on X.
“This is callous and unconstitutional. What’s the connection between eating meat and celebrating independence day? 99% of Telangana’s people eat meat. These meat bans violate people’s right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition & religion,” he said.
Owaisi’s remarks came as several municipalities have issued similar directives regarding the closure of meat shops and slaughterhouses during upcoming festivals.
