K Annamalai, President of BJP Tamil Nadu, might soon step down from his position as the saffron party is looking forward to strengthening its alliance with AIADMK. There are speculations that an alliance talk between both the parties may gather pace. This move is allegedly driven by caste equations rather than any form of ‘Punishment’. Annamalai was reportedly informed of this major change in a recent meeting held with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. The discussions in the meeting paved the way for an AIADMK-BJP reunion.
2026 TN Elections May Provide A Clear Picture
While the Tamil Nadu BJP President’s role within the party remains uncertain, the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu elections may provide a larger picture. BJP aims to consolidate its presence in Tamil Nadu and take a step in the right direction. The young Annamalai, on the other hand, has expressed his stance and loyalty to the BJP. He affirmed that he doesn’t have any second thoughts regarding his commitment to the party. Meanwhile, he also noted that he is even ready to work as a mere cadre.
Potential Frontrunner To Replace Annamalai
There are speculations that BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran, a popular leader from Thevar community, is a potential frontrunner to replace Annamalai. He was previously in AIADMK, and now, as BJP’s alliance discussions proceed, he may be appointed to strengthen the party’s hold in TN’s southern districts further.
Annamalai Says, “You Can Take That As The Final View”
The move may allow the BJP to counter the ruling Dravidian Progressive Federation’s (DMK) stronghold. Last Sunday in Coimbatore, Annamalai told the media, “Amit Shah spoke about the matter recently at a function. You can take that as the final view (of the BJP).”
