Aiming to enhance the riding experience of commuters, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Wednesday announced that it will deploy Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) in 23 states, covering 20,933 km, for the collection and analysis of road inventory and pavement condition data on national highways.
According to PTI, the department’s official statement said that the NSV surveys will update the NHAI on the condition of highways and highlight shortcomings and deficiencies, enabling the authority to take corrective measures for better upkeep.
The NSV surveys will collect data that will be uploaded to NHAI’s AI-based portal, Data Lake. This data will be analysed by a team of NHAI experts, who will transform it into actionable insights to develop appropriate maintenance and improvement strategies.
The collected data, gathered at regular intervals, will be preserved as per government guidelines for future technical reference in the Road Asset Management System.
The statement added that data will be collected for all projects-including 2, 4, 6, and 8-lane highways-using NSVs before the commencement of projects and subsequently at six-month intervals.
