NIA, other Central agencies visit Ahmedabad plane crash site
Ahmedabad Plane Crash Live Updates: 241 people have died after an Air India flight crashed near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. The London-bound flight AI-171, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, took off at 1:17 PM but began descending minutes later. The aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital, causing further casualties on the ground. Air India has confirmed the death toll, with only one person surviving the crash. The lone survivor and several injured individuals, including MBBS students, are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Air India Flight AI-171 was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian on board. Heavy smoke could be seen from Dharpur, near the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad. Fire brigade were at the location, and emergency response teams were being mobilised. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the accident.

Inspector Vinay Kumar of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) confirmed that 81 bodies have been recovered so far, and seven NDRF teams have been deployed to manage the emergency. “The operation is not yet complete. It is ongoing. We can’t say anything about the total number of deaths as of now,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed that a formal investigation into the crash has been launched by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), in accordance with international aviation safety protocols. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting late Thursday night to review the situation and coordinate relief efforts.

The crash also includes former Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani as one of the identified victims, CR Paatil, Union Minister said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Amit Shah, Home Minister, and Rammohan Naidu, Minister for Civil Aviation about the crash. The PM asked the other two ministers to come to Ahmedabad to ensure that all possible help is provided to those affected.
