New Delhi: An Ahmedabad Court on Thursday acquitted all accused in the 2002 Naroda Gam riot case. 11 people had been killed in February 2002 in the Naroda Gam area of Ahmedabad aftermath of the Godhra train burning incident.
The trial continued for almost 13 years, with 18 of the accused dying in the intervening period. A total of 86 people were made accused in the case.
Former Gujarat minister Maya Kondani, Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi and former general secretary of VHP Jaydeep Patel were among the accused who faced the trial on different charges including murder and criminal conspiracy.
During the trial, the prosecution investigated 187 witnesses whereas the accused persons presented 58 witnesses in their defence.
According to information, seven judges have heard this case in different states. The court acquitted all the accused after the final hearing.
