A 20-year-old soldier was allegedly shot dead in the Palwal district of Haryana on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The deceased, identified as Baldev, was recruited into the Army in 2024 under the Agnipath scheme, which inducts youth into the armed forces on an initial four-year contract.
Police said the Agniveer soldier was back in his native village of Mandkaul on leave and was staying at his house on farmland. A group of people identified as Bansi, Arun, Naresh, Rajendra, and some others, still unidentified, allegedly attacked him over an old rivalry with his family.
According to police, the accused-who are currently on the run-shot Baldev in the head, killing him on the spot. Baldev’s father, Khemchand, told police that on July 16, the same accused had attacked his brother, Bhishan Sharma. An attempt-to-murder case was registered at the Gadpuri police station in that matter against the assailants, as per an Indian Express Report.
As per media reports, Khemchand said the accused had been pressuring him to withdraw that case and had been constantly threatening to kill him and his family members. He claimed he had filed several complaints at the Baghuala police station, warning of threats to him and his family. He further alleged that the accused had earlier threatened Baldev over the phone, even while he was serving in the Army.
On Khemchand’s complaint, the Gadpuri police registered a murder case against the four named accused and others. Baldev’s post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday afternoon.
