New Delhi: While referring to a now-deleted tweet of Paramvir Chakra awardee Captain Bana Singh, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led Centre and questioned if the priority will be given to the 'Mitron' over the soldiers. Captain Bana Singh had tweeted a post saying that the 'Agnipath Yojana' will destroy the army.

"On one side there is Paramvir of the country and on the other the pride and dictatorship of the Prime Minister. Will only 'friends' be heard in 'New India' and not the heroes of the country?"

Captain (Hon) Bana Singh (retd) had successfully led one of the most difficult military operations in the history of mountain warfare during the Siachen conflict with Pakistan in 1987. He had led a team from the 8 Jammu Kashmir Light Infantry which captured the Quaid post- one of the highest posts in the Siachen Glacier - from the Pakistan Army. The post is today known as Bana Top.

The Paramvir Chakra awardee had severely criticised the 'Agnipath Yojana' in his tweet which he had deleted later. In a now deleted tweet, he had said, "Save the country, Agnipath scheme will badly damage us, India is going through a crucial stage. Youngsters are the future of our motherland."

Even after deleting the tweet, Bana Singh continued to tell media that he will always speak in favour of army and for its welfare. Singh criticised the central government by calling the 'Agnipath Yojana' a radical decision.

He said such decisions cannot be taken in a democracy without consulting the military veterans.
