Lucknow: Dara Singh Chauhan, who resigned from Samajwadi Party (SP) yesterday, joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Lucknow’s party office on Monday.
UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak and Minister Girish Yadav welcomed him to the party.
Dara Singh Chauhan met state Assembly speaker Satish Mahana earlier in the morning and handed over his resignation from the post of MLA.

The OBC leader, Chauhan was a minister in Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet during Latters first tenure. But, before the Assembly election in 2022, he defected to Samajwadi Party and won from the Ghosi seat in Mau district.
Recently, Suheldev Bahujan Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar joined hands with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
A Set Back for Samajwadi Party
As the Samajwadi Party is gearing UP to play a significant role in the 2024 general elections with a United Front, The exclusion of two OBC leaders from his camp may weaken its hold among the OBCs caste. The SP has already been given the tag of being a Party of Yadavs-Muslims only, which they tried to break in the 2022 Assembly election with the inclusion of OBC stalwarts like Swami Prasad Maurya, Dharma Singh Saini, and Dara Singh Chauhan.
