New Delhi: After shuffling Kiren Rijiju’s portfolio, the Union Cabinet on Thursday, reshuffled Union Minister of State SP Singh Baghel’s ministry also. Singh has been moved from the Law Ministry to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He will now take charge as Minister of State. Rashtrapati Bhavan in a press release informed that as per the advice of the Prime Minister, Minister of State Prof. SP Singh Baghel has been appointed as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Earlier, Kiren Rijiju’s ministry was reshuffled with Arjun Ram Meghwal. Meghawal will now be the law minister and Kiren Rijiju will handle the work of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Rijiju took over as the Law Minister on 8 July 2021.
SP Singh Baghel, MP from Agra Lok Sabha constituency was a Sub Inspector in UP Police. When Mulayam Singh Yadav became UP CM in 1989, SP Singh Baghel was posted under his security. It was Mulayam who brought him into politics.
In 1998, SP fielded him from Jalesar seat and he became MLA for the first time. Then he became a minister in the Mulayam government. SP Singh Baghel joined BJP before the 2014 general elections.
In 2014, the BJP fielded him against Akshay Yadav, son of SP General Secretary Professor Ram Gopal Yadav, from the Firozabad seat. But he lost the election. In the 2017 assembly elections, he became MLA from Tundla and was inducted into Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP fielded him to fight on the Karhal seat in front of SP President Akhilesh Yadav. But he lost the assembly elections to Akhilesh Yadav.
