While addressing a joint press conference shortly after the start of the third day of the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that the suspension of Business notices of Opposition parties demanding a discussion on the matter was rejected.

“All Opposition parties have decided to raise their voices against the economic scam in the Parliament. We have suspended business under rule 267 to discuss the issue of LIC, Public Sector Banks, and financial institutions investing in companies that are losing market value, putting crores of Indians’ hard-earned money at risk. However, our notices are always rejected. “When we raise important issues, we don’t have time for debate,” he further said

“Either a Joint Parliamentary Committee or a team led by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court should look into this matter,” Kharge added.

The LoP questioned the government’s lending to “such companies,” accusing it of putting pressure on banks to lend.

“Millions of dollars are invested in LIC, a reputable institution. Rather than focusing on one person, we would ask how the government is funding such businesses. We don’t understand why the government is putting pressure on such companies to lend money.” Kharge added.

Similar Opposition parties met in the Kharge chambers before the start of the day’s Parliamentary Session to discuss strategy for the day.

Several opposition MPs have sent suspension of business notices to the Houses of Parliament on the subject. However, both Houses were adjourned until 2 p.m. shortly after the Session began.

The first section of the session will end on February 13. The House of Commons will reconvene on March 12 for the second half of the Budget Session, which will end on April 6.
