Actress Ranya Rao has been taken into custody amid the Gold smuggling charges that have been linked on her, in a recent news update the Kannada actress Ranya Rao was seen with swollen eyes and bruises on her face in a image on Social Media. The picture has been circulated over the internet and has led to profound speculations that she may have been assaulted after her arrest.
Karnataka’s State Commission for Women reacted to the viral image of the actress and said that the commission is not authorized to conduct an investigation into the matter until and unless a formal complaint is filed first.
“Actually, someone has to file a complaint with us. The Women’s Commission is not an authority to conduct an investigation,” Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, said
Nagalakshmi Chaudhary strongly condemned any act of violence against Ranya, she further iterated that Whoever has been involved in the assault should not have done so. Law has prescribed disciplines and rules to follow no one has the right to assault anybody, whether its women or anybody else. She further added that she is totally against it.
Further chaudhary also added that if Ranya were to file a complaint the commission would act accordingly.
“Unless she writes to the commissioner or sends a letter to me asking us to look into the matter, we will write to the concerned authorities to help her, support her, conduct a proper investigation, and submit a report. That’s all the commission can do. Since she has not asked or filed a complaint, I can’t comment further,” she said
Kannada film actor Ranya Rao was arrested at The Bengaluru International airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle around 14.2 kg of Gold worth over 12.6 crore from Dubai on March 4th. Ranya Rao is the stepdaughter of IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, who currently serves as the Director General of Police, at the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation.
The actress confessed to the crime days after her arrest in the Gold Smuggling case, She informed the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence that her escapade consisted of not only Dubai but Europe, America and Middle East as well.
