Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, on Monday dismissed rumors of a possible alliance with the AIADMK for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The speculation had arisen after Vijay, at his party’s launch, declared the ruling DMK as his political opponent and the BJP as his ideological rival, while omitting any mention of the AIADMK.
TVK Denounces Baseless Rumors
In a statement, TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand called the rumors unfounded and accused a major Tamil daily of publishing false information to hinder the party’s rise. “This news is completely false, without evidence or foundation,” Anand asserted, urging the public to disregard such claims.
Anand reiterated TVK’s focus on preparing for the 2026 elections and expressed confidence in achieving a decisive victory.
TVK’s Ideology and Goals
During the party’s inaugural rally on October 27 in Villupuram district, Vijay outlined TVK’s ideology, which merges Dravidian ideals with Tamil nationalism. The party’s platform emphasizes equality, social justice, and secularism, aiming to create a government that benefits the Tamil people.
Anand further stated, “The political path of Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam is for the pure benefit of Tamil people. The aim is to follow the ideology proposed by the leader, attain massive victory through people’s support, and form a good government.”
AIADMK’s Stance Fuels Speculation
Speculation about a TVK-AIADMK alliance gained traction as the AIADMK avoided criticizing TVK. Some reports even suggested Vijay might seek a Deputy Chief Minister’s role and 60 assembly seats in a potential alliance. However, TVK has firmly denied such intentions.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK is dealing with its own alliance-related rumors. While its General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami recently indicated openness to partnering with parties opposing the DMK, he later clarified that the AIADMK has no plans to ally with the BJP, following their split in September 2023.
Focus on 2026 Elections
With the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections on the horizon, Vijay’s TVK is positioning itself as an independent force rooted in Tamil nationalism and Dravidian principles. Both TVK and the AIADMK have dismissed alliance rumors, setting the stage for a multi-cornered battle in the state.
