New Delhi: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Tuesday released as data report revealing that a highest number of rape crimes were reported from Madhya Pradesh.
According to the NCRB, the conviction rate in rape cases in India stood at 24.8% in 2021, with only 156 cases found guilty and around 22,313 cases pending. A total of 31,677 rape cases were registered in 2021 as compared to 28,046 in 2020.
Madhya Pradesh (2,947) registered the highest number of FIRs under IPC section 376, followed by Rajasthan (6,337), while Delhi (1,250) reported the highest number of cases among the union territories.

Increase in crime against women in 2021
Crimes against women increased to 4,28,278 in 2021, an increase of 15.3% from 3,71,503 cases in 2020. The recorded crime rate per lakh female population is 64.5 in 2021 as compared to 56.5 in 2020.

Highest number of cases registered in UP
Uttar Pradesh (56,083), Rajasthan (40,738) and Maharashtra (39,526) reported the highest number of cases from the states, while Delhi recorded 14,277 incidents compared to 10,093 in 2020 when restrictions were in force due to the coronavirus pandemic. Not only this, the report said that most of the cases under IPC were registered for ‘cruelty by husband or relatives’ (31.8%) followed by molestation (20.8%), kidnapping (17.6%) and rape (7.4%) .

Delhi unsafe city for women
There has been a 40 percent increase in criminal cases in the country’s capital Delhi in a year. In the year 2021, 13,892 FIRs were registered against women. According to the report, Delhi is the most unsafe city for women and two minor girls are raped here every day. At the same time, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal has also expressed concern.

She wrote in her tweet, ‘According to NCRB data, crimes against women increased by 41% in 2021. Crimes against children increased by 32%. This is a matter of deep concern. Today, every party, every government of the country should take strong steps together to make women’s safety out of the election manifesto and make it a reality on the ground!”
