Nitish Kumar’s sudden shift from the INDIA alliance to the NDA last month, where he left the Congress and his longtime associate Lalu Prasad Yadav to join forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party, was viewed as a significant move. However, that might not be entirely accurate, as while speaking with media Lalu said, “Ab aayenge toh dekh lenge (If he comes back, then we’ll see)”. Lalu Yadav’s unexpected statement came shortly after he encountered Nitish Kumar at the Bihar Assembly, during which his party was nominated Manoj Jha and Sanjay Yadav as its Rajya Sabha candidates.

This encounter marked the first time the two political heavyweights met since Nitish Kumar severed ties with Lalu Yadav and returned to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Tejashwi Yadav, the son of Lalu Yadav, who served twice as the Deputy Chief Minister under Nitish Kumar, had shown less leniency and openly criticized his former boss during the recent trust vote.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
