Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday. He was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi late in the evening after his health deteriorated, where doctors declared him dead.

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed his heartfelt condolences over the demise of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He shared a post on X along with a video paying tribute to the leader. In his post he described Former PM as a statesman of unparalleled integrity and wisdom, highlighting his significant contributions to India’s economic growth and global stature.

He wrote, “A legendary Prime Minister, who is and will be a cult figure forever…. His legend will keep growing….. for institutions never die, they keep inspiring generations.”

He added, “Jab bhi Hindustan ki siyasat mein kirdar, kabiliyat aur imandari ka itihas likha jayega, aapka naam pehle safe pe sunhare aksharo m likha jayega, na tujhse pehle koi aisa tha na tere baad koi aisa hoga.” (Whenever the history of character, competence, and integrity in Indian politics is written, your name will be written on the first page in golden letters… there was no one like you before, and there will be no one like you after!)

In the video shared by Navjot, he can be seen admiring late former PM for his work, ability and character in his own poetic style. “Parindo ko manzil milegi humesha, ye faile hue unke pankh bolte hain, wahi log rehte h khamosh aksar, zamane m jinke hunar bolte hain,” Sidhu said.

PM Modi Expresses Grief

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday. He was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi late in the evening after his health deteriorated, where doctors declared him dead. He was 92 years old and was ill for a long time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on demise of Former PM Manmohan Singh. He wrote on X, “India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives.”

Centre Announces Seven-Day State Mourning

Meanwhile, Centre has announced a seven-day state mourning across the country from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025 following the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 26, 2024, at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast at all locations where it is customarily displayed, and all official entertainment will be suspended.
