Gopal Rai, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Delhi branch, called for a nationwide protest against the BJP on Thursday in response to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). According to Mr. Rai, Kejriwal’s detention is an “announcement of dictatorship” and the “murder of democracy”.

Officials detained Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday night in connection with a money-laundering case involving excise policies and brought him to the agency’s headquarters.
Hours after the Delhi High Court denied shielding the AAP national convenor from any coercive action by the federal government, the first arrest of a sitting chief minister took place.
“I urge my countrymen to demonstrate against this dictatorship in front of BJP offices nationwide. On Friday, at ten a.m., we will congregate at the AAP office and stage a protest outside the BJP headquarters”. Rai, a minister in the government of Delhi, stated. “Anyone can be detained and have their voice silenced if Kejriwal is capable of being arrested. Today is the first day of the fight.” He went on, saying “Arvind Kejriwal is an ideology, not a person.”
Mr. Rai said, “The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre believes it can only secure 40 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections, instead of the 400 seats it had hoped for initially.”
Delhi ministers Atishi and Gopal Rai, as well as AAP Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak, announced Kejriwal’s detention procedure at a midnight press conference.
