The government will soon be establishing a new rule according to which users will no longer be able to get their Aadhaar card photocopied. Instead, they will have to depend on a new digital verification technology. This will ensure compliance with the Aadhaar Act and reduce the risk of data leaks. The change will also be convenient for the public. Keeping copies of the Aadhaar card is a violation of the Aadhaar Act.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that all organizations that perform Aadhaar-related verifications, such as hotels and event organizers, will now be required to register with the system and use a new verification technology.
The new system will allow verification by scanning a QR code or using the new Aadhaar mobile application. This new rule will be implemented soon. It will eliminate the paper-based Aadhaar verification that is currently necessary.

The new verification method will also eliminate the problems faced by intermediary servers. Organizations that require offline verification will be provided with an API that will allow them to integrate this verification system into their software.
UIDAI’s new application will allow app-to-app verification without connecting to the central server each time. This app could be used at airports and shops that sell age-specific goods. Bhuvnesh Kumar said that this new method will further strengthen Aadhaar privacy. This will eliminate the risks associated with storing photocopies of Aadhaar on paper.
Why the new change?
This application will support the upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will be fully implemented in 18 months. People will soon be able to upload their updated address proof through this application, and family members who do not have mobile phones can also be added to this application.
The new rules will ensure compliance with the Aadhaar Act. The old method of photocopies led to extended risks of data leakage. Soon, the process will be digitized, increasing security and ensuring simple verification.
This new change will be beneficial for people—they will not have to carry their Aadhaar card everywhere; they will be able to easily verify their Aadhaar through the mobile application. This is another important step towards Digital India.
