Aadhaar has become one of the most important identity documents for every Indian today. From banking and mobile connections to availing government welfare schemes, Aadhaar is required almost everywhere. But if any detail on the Aadhaar card is incorrect, even small tasks can get delayed. One common problem many people face is an outdated childhood photograph on their Aadhaar card.
As people grow older, the photo on the Aadhaar card, especially one taken during childhood, often looks very different from their current appearance. This can lead to awkward situations where identity verification becomes difficult and some people even hesitate to show their Aadhaar card. To avoid such confusion, updating the photograph is the best solution.
How to update your Aadhaar photo
The facility to change the Aadhaar photograph is provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). However, unlike updates for name, address or mobile number, the photo cannot be changed online. For this, visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment or Aadhaar Service Centre is mandatory.
To begin the process, visit the official UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in. Under the My Aadhaar section, you will find the option for Enrolment and Update Forms. Download this form, take a printout and carefully fill in the required details.
Once the form is filled, visit your nearest Aadhaar Service Centre with the completed form. At the centre, officials will verify your details. After verification, your new photograph will be clicked on the spot and the biometric process, including iris scanning, will be completed as per UIDAI guidelines. This ensures accuracy and avoids errors.
Fees, tracking and processing time
Updating the Aadhaar photo involves a fixed fee of Rs 100, which includes GST. After completing the process, you will be given a URN (Update Request Number). This number is important as it allows you to track the status of your Aadhaar update online.
Generally, it takes around 30 to 90 days for the updated photograph to reflect in the Aadhaar database. During this period, you can regularly check the update status by entering your URN on the UIDAI website.
With a simple offline process and a small fee, you can ensure that your Aadhaar photo accurately reflects your current identity and avoid unnecessary hassles in the future.
