New Delhi:  Mandeep Kaur, an Indian-origin woman has committed suicide in New York. She has cited years of abuse by her husband. Reason being that she gave birth only to daughters.

The incident has bought the debate over stigmas deep-rooted in our society. “I tolerated all of it, hoping that he will mend his ways one day,” Mandeep Kaur says, in her final video before committing suicide. The video has now gone viral.

Mandeep Kaur was the mother to two daughters who are aged 4 and 6 years. She can be heard saying, “It’s been eight years; I cannot take daily beatings now,” in the video.

The video which is recorded in Punjabi, she claims that her in-laws were “forcing” her to die by suicide. “Daddy, I am going to die, please forgive me,” she says.

The Kaur Movement had posted a series of videos related to this case. This was the final video that Mandeep Kaur posted before she committed suicide.

The social media account also shared some posts in which they rolled out information regarding her husband Ranjodhbeer Singh Sandhu. The post claims that Mandeep “wanted to leave him. But he threatened to kill her family”.

Another recording of Mandeep Kaur being abused by her husband verbally was also posted. In the video he says that he wanted a son. But all Mandeep could give were two daughters.

In one of the most heartbreaking video which was posted. Mandeep was brutally beaten by her husband. In the background her two daughters aged 4 and 6 years can be heard crying. They plead their father to not to beat their mom. (TRIGGER WARNING! You can watch this video where Mandeep is being brutally beaten by her husband.)

Case is now being investigated

The New York Police department is now investigating this case from the angle of homicide against the husband Ranjodhbeer Singh Sandhu.

Meanwhile, an FIR has also been registered against Mandeep’s father-in-law Mukhtyar Singh, mother-in-law Kuldeep Raj Kaur and brother-in-law Jasveer Singh in India. All of them are currently absconding.
