Muraina: Eight pilgrims who were on the way to visit Kaila Devi in Rajasthan from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh drowned while crossing the Chambal river by foot on Saturday. 

According to sources, out of eight drowned, the bodies of 4 have been found so far. 

The incident took place at Morena, Sheopur and Rajasthan border. State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) teams are being in search of the missing people through local diving boats. The police administration of Rajasthan is also on the spot to monitor the situation.

A group of 17 devotees were going to visit Kaila Devi from Chilavad village in Shivpuri district. All were crossing the Chambal river on foot by making a chain by holding hands with each other. They did not anticipate the depth of water in the river, and suddenly due to the high flow in deep water, 8 devotees were washed away.  Dead bodies of 4 have been recovered so far, and the search for the remaining 4 is on.

Expressing grief over this accident, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Shivraj Singh Chauhan instructed the Shivpuri district administration to speed up the rescue operation in the Chambal river. Chief Minister’s Office CMO is monitoring the rescue operation.
