Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a towering 77‑foot bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa. This event marks a key highlight of the mutt’s 550th-year celebrations. A special helipad has been constructed on the mutt grounds to receive the prime minister, who is expected to arrive in the afternoon.
The statue has been crafted by renowned sculptor Ram V. Sutar, the same artist who designed the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. Officials say this will be the tallest depiction of Lord Ram in Asia. The bronze figure depicts the deity in a standing posture, radiating strength and serenity, and is expected to inspire devotion among visitors and devotees alike. The unveiling is anticipated to attract thousands of people, including spiritual seekers, dignitaries and tourists, making it one of the largest gatherings at the mutt in recent years.
Celebrations, crowds and cultural significance
The statue unveiling is part of an 11-day festival running from November 27 to December 7. During this period, the mutt premises in Partagal, Canacona, have been refurbished and upgraded with facilities to accommodate the large number of visitors expected daily.
The event will also feature temple prayers, cultural programs and speeches by dignitaries. State and union leaders, including Goa’s Chief Minister, are expected to participate. Organisers hope the statue will not only enhance the spiritual significance of the mutt but also turn it into a major pilgrimage and tourist landmark.
