Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief RR Swain stated that 70-80 foreign terrorists have infiltrated Kashmir and are posing a threat to the prevailing peaceful situation in the region. Following a public grievance program in Pulwama, South Kashmir, Swain emphasized the necessity of taking tough actions against certain individuals to maintain peace for the larger interest of the masses.
Swain highlighted the importance of a peaceful and fearless atmosphere for the upcoming Assembly polls, stating that high voter turnout in previous elections should serve as a catalyst for security measures in J&K. While acknowledging the success in deterring local youth from joining terrorist activities, Swain pointed out the persistent challenge posed by foreign terrorism.
DGP Swain stated that the police are fully aware and focused on keeping the peaceful and fearless atmosphere intact in J&K for the upcoming Assembly polls. He said, “We know the value of peace and a fearless atmosphere. When there is no fear, people will definitely come out to vote. So we are focused and steps are afoot to keep the peaceful and fearless atmosphere prevailing in the UT intact for the upcoming Assembly polls.” He added, “We would love to see the high voter turnout in Lok Sabha polls become a trigger of a virtuous security cycle in J&K.”
In response to a query, the DGP reiterated that there is a shift in terrorism—from resident to foreign terrorism. He said, “Our endeavor to keep the youth away from guns has borne fruit. This has saved many women from becoming widows, many families from getting ruined, and many lives from going to waste.” He also mentioned, “But foreign terrorism is there. Some 70 to 80 foreign terrorists have come here with arms and ammunition. Recently, they tried to blow up the electricity tower that provides power supply to people.”
