Mangaluru police arrested seven people in the alleged gang rape of a junior college student near Kinnikambla in Gurupura Kaikamba on Tuesday. It was revealed that the accused also filmed the incident and shared it.
According to police, the victim had met on Instagram one of the accused, Karthik, around two months before and they developed an online relationship.
On June 29, Karthik allegedly convinced the minor girl to get on his scooter, lured her for lunch at a hotel in Valachil and eventually drove her to the woods near Adyar Falls, authorities claim.
He sexually assaulted her and also one of his friends raped the victim. The main accused recorded the incident and shared the footage with his friends.
The accused have been identified as Karthik, Rakesh Saldana, Jeevan, Sandeep, Rakshith, Shravan, and Suresh. Police said that the other five have been arrested for abetment for circulating the video.
A case has been registered under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act. Police said the accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
