An earthquake with the magnitude of 7.1 hit the Kermadec Islands region of New Zealand on Thursday at 06:25:58 IST (NCS), according to the National Institute for Seismology (NCS).
On Thursday, NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.8, happened on 16-03-2023, 06:25:58 IST, Lat: -30.34 & Long: -175.17, Depth: 41 Km, Location: Kermadec Islands. In -30.34 degrees latitude and -175.17 degrees longitude, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 41 kilometres.
A tsunami warning was issued by US tsunami warning system in view of the earthquake. However, later New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) twitted to make it clear that there is no threat of Tsunami to the nation.
Nema added, “Remember, if the tremour is long or strong , get gone.”

It is estimated that jolts are originated 10 km below the surface level, USGS tweeted.
It is noted that earlier this month earthquake with 6.9 magnitute hit the same region. That tremour was originated from 183 km below the surface level. at that time US has issued tsunami warning.

It is informed that the island of newzealand is situated on the ring of fire, a 40, 000km stretch that has 452 active volcanoes, as per the national geographic society.
