Today is the sixth day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, with the discussion underway on the budget. In the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gave a speech on the budget and made bold statements. He mentioned the ‘Chakravyuh’ story from the Mahabharata, which prompted Speaker Om Birla to step in and caused a major uproar.
Gandhi’s speech covered the budget and also touched on other issues like the Agniveer recruitment, the NEET paper leak, and the three controversial farm laws. Before Rahul Gandhi spoke, there was a heated discussion in the House about a recent accident at the Rau’s IAS Coaching Center in Delhi. A motion was put forward to suspend business and talk about this issue.

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi compared the situation to the Chakravyuh, saying, “Today, the Chakravyuh is still set up in Kurukshetra, and once again, six people are attacking Abhimanyu. These Abhimanyus represent farmers, youth, small shopkeepers, and many other sections of society. The attackers are Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, Gautam Adani, and Mukesh Ambani.”
Gandhi also criticized the Modi government for passing three controversial laws and disregarding farmers’ protests by blocking their entry into Delhi. He noted that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not address the NEET paper leak but instead criticized the Agniveer scheme by mocking their pensions in the budget while mentioning internships. In response, Speaker Om Birla asked Gandhi to follow parliamentary rules. Gandhi then replied, “Fine, let’s avoid discussing Adani-Ambani, but there should be a discussion about security agencies.”
Kiren Rijiju Reacts
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Leader of the Opposition for not understanding the rules of the House. He said the House operates by rules and accused the Leader of the Opposition of challenging the Speaker, which undermines the House’s dignity. Rijiju stressed that the country functions by rules. Rahul Gandhi had referred to the need to protect certain matters and acknowledged the directive to avoid commenting on specific issues. In reply, Rijiju explained that he was addressing the current situation with the Speaker’s permission. He noted that the opposition had not complied with requests and emphasized the need for mutual respect. Gandhi responded by assuring that the opposition would cooperate once they yield, and guaranteed his willingness to cooperate.
