An earthquake measuring 6.3 in magnitude jolted the Bay of Bengal early on Tuesday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, with the epicentre located at a longitude of 93.37°E and a latitude of 6.82°N. There are no immediate reports of any damage or casualties, and the concerned authorities are currently assessing the quake’s impact.

Adding to the recent seismic activity, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Nicobar Islands region around 12:12 am IST on Tuesday. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, had its epicentre located about 259 km west-northwest of Sabang in Aceh, Indonesia. According to the United States Geological Survey and the Tsunami Warning System, the powerful quake did not trigger a tsunami alert.
