A 5.9 magnitude earthquake jolted Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Wednesday. The earthquake occurred around 11:12 am. The United States Geological Survey reported that the centre of earthquake was 153 km from Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The affected countries were India and Indonesia. At exactly 11:12 AM IST, tremors were reported across the Nicobar Islands and even extended to the Bay of Bengal. No casualties or significant damages have been reported so far.
The National Center for Seismology was quick to confirm the tremors, with advisories issued immediately. Residents in the affected zones were urged to stay alert, albeit with reassurance that no further risk appears imminent. It has shared information about “BhooKamp” app, which offers real-time information about seismic activities, serving as a crucial tool for those in vulnerable areas.

Notably, an earthquake had occurred in Gujarat in past few days. Two earthquake tremors were felt in the Kutch district of Gujarat. The first tremor occurred at 11:12 AM on Tuesday morning, and its occurrence was confirmed by the Earthquake Research Institute located in Gandhinagar. The magnitude of this earthquake was measured at 3 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers west-southwest of the Rapar area in the district.
