Uttarakhand News: In a shocking revelation, 45 prisoners have been found HIV positive in Haldwani Jail of Uttarakhand. In-charge of ART Center of Sushila Tiwari Hospital, Dr. Paramjit Singh said that 44 prisoners in Haldwani Jail have been found infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus and one woman inmate has also been found HIV positive.
According to Dr. Singh, the number of HIV positive prisoners in the jail is continuously increasing due to which there has been a stir in the jail administration. Giving information about the treatment of prisoners, Dr. Singh said, “An ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) center has been set up for HIV patients, where infected patients are treated, my team is constantly checking the prisoners in the jail ”
Doctor said, “Medicine is given on the guidelines of NACO. Any inmate who is infected with HIV is given free treatment and medicines based on the guidelines of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO),” Dr Singh said.
Dr Singh further said that at present there are 1629 male and 70 female prisoners. After such a large number of inmates have been found to be HIV positive, the jail administration is also conducting regular check-ups of the inmates so that HIV infected inmates can be treated on time.
