Dr. Pravin Kumar, Garhwal Division’s Health Director overseeing the rescue operation, emphasized the consistent communication maintained with the trapped workers, supporting their mental well-being.

Highlighting the presence and support of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the state health minister throughout the operation, Dr. Kumar credited health teams for uplifting the morale of the workers.

“Our state health minister and chief minister were consistently present at the tunnel site. From day one, our teams worked on boosting their morale and establishing contact,” he stated.

“Food items were sent through the pipe, along with constant morale-boosting efforts, ensuring the workers’ stable mental state post-rescue,” he added.

Dr. Pravin Kumar addressed health challenges encountered by the workers, noting minor issues like difficulty in urination and allergies, promptly treated with adequate care and provisions of water, juice, and food.

The successful rescue brought relief and joy to the families after 17 days of anxious waiting, marking the end of a nationwide-watched rescue operation.

Expressing emotions of gratitude, families appreciated the government’s efforts and celebrated by distributing sweets and lighting fireworks. Some engaged in video calls to ensure the workers’ well-being.

Several relatives, who had stayed at the site since the incident, were finally reunited with their loved ones after the rescue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conversed with the rescued workers. The extensive rescue effort followed the tunnel collapse on November 12, trapping 41 workers.

The workers hail from Jharkhand (15), Uttarakhand (2), Bihar (5), West Bengal (3), Uttar Pradesh (8), Odisha (5), Assam (2), and Himachal Pradesh (1).
