New Delhi: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) informed that more than 70,000 women have gone missing in Gujarat within a period of 5 years.

As per the data, as manyy as 7,105 women went missing in 2016, 7,712 in 2017, 9,246 in 2018, and 9,268 in 2019. Meanwhile in 2020, a total number of 8,290 went missing reported the New Indian Express.

The state government in Assembly had stated in 2021 that 4,722 women were disappeared between 2019-2020 in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.

“Women Forced Into Prostitution” 

The report further quoted Sudhir Sinha, a former IPS officer and member of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission saying that he observed that most of these missing girls were sent to other states and forced into prostitution.

Sinha further mentioned that the police do not take the matter as serious as murder crimes. He pointed out that missing complaints are frequently ignored because they are investigated in the British-era manner.
