Criminal Cases against MPs

New Delhi: A report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch claimed that 33 percent of Rajya Sabha MPs have criminal cases registered against them. 

The report stated that 75 out of 225 MPs have Criminal cases registered against them under different sections including IPC 302.

18 percent i.e. 41 MPs have criminal cases registered against them under serious sections, while two MPs are under trial against murder charges i.e. Section 302 of IPC, the report claimed. 

Four Rajya Sabha MPs are facing criminal cases pertaining to crimes against women.

Explain that Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have analysed the criminal, financial, and other information of 225 out of 233 Rajya Sabha MPs. At present, one seat is vacant in the Rajya Sabha, while the affidavits of three MPs have not been analysed. At the same time, 4 seats of Jammu and Kashmir are undefined.

Analysis has been done on the basis of affidavits

The report is being prepared after a thorough analysis based on the affidavits submitted by the candidates before the Rajya Sabha elections and the subsequent by-elections. The details of 11 newly elected MPs are also included in the study.  

23 out of 85 of BJP’s MPs have criminal cases against them (27%) 

12 out of 30 Congress’s MPs have criminal cases against them ( 40%)

4 out of 13 TMC MPs are under trial in various cases (31),

5 out of 6 RJD Rajya Sabha MPs have criminal charges against them ( 83%)\

 4 out of 5 MLAs of CPI (80%) and 3 out of 10 MPs of Aam Aadmi Party have criminal cases against them (30%),

 3 out of 9 MPs of YSRCP (33%) and 2 out of 3 MPs of NCP (67%) have criminal cases registered against them.
