As the ‘Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat’ is slated to take place today in the national capital, Scores of farmers from across Punjab started heading towards Delhi in more than 800 buses, trucks, trains, and private vehicles, etc. to attend the event at Ramlila Maidan.

At a meeting in Chandigarh on February 22, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced to conducting of a farmers ‘mahapanchayat’ in Delhi for which they got the no-objection certificate for the gathering from Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on March 11.
Founded in November 2020, SKM is an umbrella body consisting of 37 farmer unions, formed to oppose the three farm acts which the centre wanted to implement.

Giving details of the mahapanchayat, Manjit Dhaner, Chief of the Dhaner faction Of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) said that around 30,000 farmers are expected to reach the national capital on Thursday to attend the event.
