Three individuals were apprehended at Tambaram railway station in Chennai on Saturday night from the Nellai Express train, carrying an amount exceeding ₹4 crore in cash. The three men, each with around eight bags in tow, boarded the train at Egmore.

Upon receiving the alert, police and the flying squad stationed in Tambaram swiftly made their way to the Tambaram railway station, Chennai around 9 pm yesterday.
The suspects were identified as S Sathish (33) from Agaram, his brother S Navin (31), and S Perumal (26) from Thoothukudi. During a search of the second-class AC coach (A1), it was revealed that the bags they were transporting contained cash, all in ₹500 notes, according to the report.
Subsequently, the police detained all three suspects at the police station and notified the income tax department. According to reports, the IT teams will interrogate the accused either on Sunday or Monday.

In addition, the police initiated search operations in Kilpauk, Triplicane, and Saligramam, as well as locations associated with Tirunelveli BJP candidate Nainar Nagendran. The report indicated that the passengers had stored the cash at sites connected to the BJP leader before transporting it to Egmore railway station.
At present, the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the passengers intended to distribute the cash in the Tirunelveli Lok Sabha constituency ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled to take place in seven phases starting on April 19.
In the first phase of the general elections 2024, the 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu are scheduled to go to polls on April 19. The counting is set to take place on June 4.
