Other notable candidates for this seat were Shiromani Akali Dal’s Mohinder Singh KP, BSP’s Balwinder Kumar, and AAP’s Pawan Kumar Tinu. Jalandhar is a reserved seat, historically dominated by Congress from 1999 to 2019, until AAP won in the last election with Sushil Kumar Rinku, who is now with BJP.

Voting for the Jalandhar seat took place on June 1 in the final phase, with a turnout of 59.70 percent, which is lower than the previous election’s turnout of 63.04 percent in 2019.

The Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 39% and no Scheduled Tribe population, as per the latest Delimitation Commission report. The district’s literacy rate is 82%, according to the 2011 Census of India.

Data from the Election Commission of India indicates that the voter turnout in Jalandhar for the 2024 elections was 59.07%. This is a decline from 63% in 2019, and even lower than the 67% turnout in both 2014 and 2009. The 2024 turnout was 3.95% less than in 2019.
