A 24-year-old first-year MBBS student committed suicide on the premises of Government Medical College in Chhattisgarh’s Korba District on Saturday, stated police reports. A suicide note allegedly belonging to him was found on the premises, It read, “Mujhse nahi ho paya, I am sorry, papa (I couldn’t do it, I am sorry, papa)”, they said.
Himanshu Kashyap, 24, was found hanging inside his hostel room on college premises under the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station, stated City Superintendent of Police Bhushan Ekka.
Citing preliminary information, the official stated that when Kashyap did not show up for his morning examination, his classmates went to his room, only to find the door locked from the inside.
“When they opened the door after several attempts, they broke the door and found the body hanging, ” he added. Police arrived at the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Suicide note was also seized from the room,” he said.
The official said an accidental death report has been lodged and investigation is likely to be launched.
Dean of the college, Dr. KK Sahare said, “Kashyap had failed in his first-year examination in 2024 and he was appearing for re-examination in the current year.” “It appears he took the extreme step due to the pressure of not performing well in the exams,” he said.
