21 Arrested In Arunachal Pradesh Sex Trafficking Sting, Involving 8 Govt Employees

Arunachal Pradesh Police discovered an inter-state sex trafficking and prostitution ring that involved minor girls, leading to the rescue of five girls aged between 10 and 15.

Sex Trafficking Sting

Itanagar police, part of the Arunachal Pradesh Police, uncovered an inter-state sex trafficking and prostitution ring involving minor girls and rescued five girls aged between 10 and 15. Over a period of 10 days, law enforcement officers arrested 21 individuals, including traffickers, pimps, and customers. Among the arrested customers were eight government employees.

All of the girls were from poor households in Assam’s Dhemaji and Udalguri, and they were trafficked to Itanagar between 2020 and 2023 under the guise of bettering their lives before being forced into prostitution, according to authorities. One of them was just eight years old when she was brought to Itanagar in 2020. “She managed to flee, but was apprehended in 2022,” Itanagar (Capital) SP Rohit Rajbir Singh stated. More concerning is that initial medical evaluations show that three of the girls had a high viral load, indicating the existence of sexually transmitted infections.

Based on credible information, police raided Techi Rina aka Ania and Jamlo Tagung’s residence-cum-brothel in Chimpu, rescuing three juveniles. The other two said they were taken from Dhemaji by two sisters, Pushpanjali Mili alias Tutu Mili and Purnima Mili, who forced them into prostitution with Techi and Jamlo.
